There’s just something about a freshly baked cinnamon roll on a cozy Sunday morning that just does it for me. Scratch that… even on weekdays I can always trust those calorie-loaded rolls to cheer me up! Nothing better, I swear. Pair it with a cup of tea or coffee and suddenly my entire day is looking a wholeeeee lot brighter.

I LOVE cinnamon rolls and I think — and I’m definitely not biased of course. Wink wink. I make the BEST cinnamon rolls. Okay maybe I’m a little biased… but they’re seriously so good and you absolutely need to try them.

And listen, after making these, if you don’t like them, you never have to use this recipe again. BUTTTT you would seriously be missing out if you don’t at least give this one a try. After all, you don’t want to miss out on what could possibly be the best cinnamon roll you ever eat in your life… do you? 😌

These cinnamon rolls are soft, fluffy, gooey in the middle, packed with warm cinnamon spice, juicy raisins, and covered in the most dreamy velvety frosting ever. Like genuinely the type of cinnamon roll that makes you stop mid-bite because it’s THAT good.

And can we talk about the smell? Because once these start baking your kitchen is going to smell like a cozy bakery and suddenly you’ll feel like the main character in a wholesome autumn movie.

Cinnamon rolls for cozy mornings

Yields: 8 large rolls or 12 smaller rolls
Prep Time: 35 minutes
Rise Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Bake Time: 25–30 minutes

Ingredients

1. The Dough

¾ cup (180ml) milk, warmed to 110°F

½ cup (110g) granulated sugar, divided

2 ½ tsp active dry yeast

½ cup (113g) salted butter, very softened

2 eggs, room temperature

1 tbsp vanilla extract

4 ½ cups (540g) flour

1 tsp salt

2. The Spiced Raisin Filling

1 cup (240g) light brown sugar

2 tbsp cinnamon

2 tsp nutmeg

½ cup (113g) salted butter, softened

1 tsp vanilla extract

Raisins (as much as desired)

3. The Secret Liquid

½ cup (120ml) heavy cream, warmed

4. The Frosting

2 egg yolks

Sugar (approximately ¼ cup, to sweeten yolks)

1 tsp vanilla extract

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1 tbsp vanilla extract

Heavy whipping cream

1/5 cup powdered sugar

2 tsp vanilla extract

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and the yeast. Let it sit for 5–7 minutes until frothy. (You wanna make sure to activate that yeast! You don’t want a flat cinnamon rolls now do you)

In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the yeast mixture, remaining sugar, softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.

Add the flour and salt. Mix on low speed with a dough hook for about 1 minute until barely combined. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.

Knead the dough on medium speed for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. (Please please do not over knead your dough, or else it’ll become hard and overly chewy!)

Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 30–45 minutes or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Make the Spiced Raisin Filling

In a bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Roll out the dough:

  • 16×15 inches for 8 large rolls
  • 24×15 inches for 12 smaller rolls

Spread the filling evenly over the dough and sprinkle raisins across the top (As much raisin as you want! Or none if you prefer).

Roll the dough tightly from the long edge and cut into approximately 2-inch slices.

Place the rolls into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let proof for 25–30 minutes until puffy. (This is necessary, don’t skip this step)

Step 3: Baking

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Warm the 120ml heavy cream in the microwave for about 15 seconds and pour it evenly over the rolls before baking. This is the secret to ultra-soft, gooey cinnamon rolls.

For 8 Large Rolls

Bake at 350°F for 22–24 minutes, then increase the temperature to 375°F for another 5–7 minutes.

For 12 Smaller Rolls

Bake at 350°F for 20–22 minutes, then increase the temperature to 375°F for another 5–7 minutes.

Bake until golden brown and beautifully puffed.  (Do not burn your cinnamon rolls or they won’t taste as nice or be fluffy and soft)

Step 4: The Frosting

1. Make the Custard

Set a heatproof bowl over simmering water.

Whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla constantly until the mixture becomes pale, thickened, and smooth.

Remove from heat and allow it to cool completely.

2. Prepare the Cream Cheese Mixture

In a separate bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with vanilla extract until smooth.

Blend the cooled custard into the cream cheese mixture.

3. Whip the Cream

In a bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until sturdy peaks form.

Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese custard mixture until smooth, airy, and velvety. (If you feel like it’s missing vanilla, do add more! There is no such thing as too much vanilla!)

Step 5: Frost the Cinnamon Rolls

Allow the cinnamon rolls to cool for 10–15 minutes before spreading the frosting generously over the top.

The frosting will melt slightly into the warm swirls, creating the most rich and creamy cinnamon rolls imaginable.

Tips for the Best Cinnamon Rolls

Do Not Overheat the Milk

Milk that is too hot can kill the yeast.

Use Very Soft Butter

Soft butter spreads more evenly and creates a smoother filling.

Let the Dough Rise Properly

Rushing the rise can lead to dense rolls instead of fluffy ones.

Pour the Heavy Cream Over the Rolls

This keeps the rolls extra soft and gooey while baking.

Avoid Overbaking

Slightly underbaked cinnamon rolls stay softer for longer.

From the girl in the corner to the actress in her own story

Growing up, I was one of those shy, quiet girls that sat in the corner of the classroom, paranoid that every action was being judged and that speaking up and voicing my opinion would lead to embarrassment. While I had friends and felt comfortable enough around them to be half of myself, the other part I kept to myself, still out of fear. And ladies and gentlemen, that was the plain, uneventful story of my teen years.

I knew I didn’t want to be that person forever, but I didn’t know how to be someone else. My decision came suddenly and shockingly as I stood at the airport, ready to check in and board my flight to university. As I stood there in the middle of the airport with the realization that I am going to a new place where no one knew anything about me, it hit me. This was my chance! I could be anyone I wanted and no one would know the truth.

And so, I decided right then and there that I was going to pretend and be the actress in my own story. From then on, I went on a journey of growth, until what I was faking became a reality. When I realized how natural it felt, I began setting milestones on how I could further grow into the person I imagined I could be. In this post, I am going to share with you the exact steps, actions, and decisions I made to become more self-assured and confident.

10 Habits to Go From Shy and Reserved to Self-Assured and Confident

Habit 1: Mindset (Nobody Cares What You’re Doing)

This is going to be a hard one to make peace with. But the reality is everyone has too much on their plates already and nobody actually cares what you are doing in your life. If they do, it’s probably just for a little while and then something else is going to grab their attention. Everybody is too busy with their own lives. While there are nosy and gossipy people, I want you to know that YOU are making an effort to grow. Grow with the mindset that negative people never want you to succeed, and your job is to prove them wrong.

Habit 2: Cut Out Negative Friends and Acquaintances

There’s nothing worse than a “Negative Nancy” or a “Pessimistic Paul.” Negative people have no value in your life and you need to cut them out. They affect your view on life, drain you, and ultimately keep you stuck. If you can’t escape them (like family or colleagues), limit your contact and time spent around them. Take what they say with a grain of salt and surround yourself with good, positive people who wish you success.

Habit 3: Create an Alter Ego

Think about the person you want to be or someone you admire. Look at how they talk, their tone of voice, how they dress, and how they walk. Create an alter ego that embodies who you want to grow into. Every time you feel like you are retreating into your old self, you take on your alter ego’s character. Think of it like acting. You are not you, but your alter ego. The key is to actually become that person.

Habit 4: Fake It ‘Till You Make It

Whenever you are in a situation and you feel shy; for example, in a group setting where you are scared to talk, tell yourself that you are not. Swallow that fear and ask that question. Think of your tone; how do you usually speak when you’re shy? Now do the opposite. Project your voice and speak with authority. Just doing that will help you FEEL confident. Look at how CEOs or lawyers carry themselves and then practice with yourself.

Habit 5: Visualise Yourself Doing It

Whenever you’re about to do something that requires courage, visualize how you are going to approach it. Be clear on what you want to say, how you want to say it, and the tone of voice you will use. Mentally prepare for possible outcomes. Once you visualize the exact way you want the situation to go, lock it in. Take three deep breaths and execute! This always works for me before a presentation or addressing a crowd.

Habit 6: Steady Your Facial Expression

Look straight ahead and walk with a destination in mind. A trick I’ve learned is to steady your facial expression (what some call a “resting face”). Just the way you speak and carry yourself, if faked for long enough, will eventually become who you are.

Habit 7: Look Good, Feel Good

When we look our best, we feel good. Look at the clothes you have; do they compliment your body type? Does your hair suit your face? Looking good does not necessarily mean having the nicest clothes or perfect skin; you just have to know how to own it. If you decide you want change, look into your body type and what clothes that “version of you” would wear. Slowly embed these changes, adjusting as you go.

Habit 8: Pep Talk Yourself

Every day before leaving your house, stand in front of a mirror and give yourself a pep talk. “You’ve got this, you are confident, and you will be who you want to be.” This is your life and you are in control. Give yourself a pep talk before anything that makes you nervous; a presentation, a date, or talking to someone new.

Habit 9: Master Your Mood

When we are mad, we often become more confident because we no longer care; we are driven by rage. But we can’t always stay mad! Instead, be calm. When you feel nervous, take three deep breaths and repeat in your mind that you are calm. Don’t overly show your excitement or happiness if you are about to give a speech; for reserved people, that often leads to fumbled words. Express your happiness when you feel more comfortable.

Habit 10: Milestones

Set milestones. You start from zero. For example, Goal 1: “Speak more confidently and clearly.” Once I achieved it effortlessly, I became Sonia 1.0. Then set Goal 2: “Ooze confidence in how I carry myself.” When successful, I became Sonia 2.0. Breaking it down keeps you from feeling overwhelmed. Not at all. Think of it as auditioning for the person you want to become. You aren’t changing your core values or your heart; but practicing the skills (like posture and tone) that your future self will use naturally. Eventually, the “act” becomes your reality.

How do I act confident when I’m shaking inside?

This is where Habit 5 (Visualization) and Habit 9 (Calmness) come in. Before the situation, visualize it going perfectly. When you’re in the moment and feel that shake, focus on your breath. If you speak slowly and keep your facial expression steady, people won’t see the nerves you feel inside.

What if people from my past judge me for changing?

This is a common fear, but remember Habit 6: Most people are too busy with their own lives to track your every move. If someone does judge you, they fall into the “Negative Influence” category from Habit 2. Your growth is for you, not for their approval.

It doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a journey of “versions.” You move from 1.0 to 2.0 by hitting small milestones. You might feel “fake” for a few weeks, but usually, after a few months of consistent practice, you’ll realize you aren’t pretending anymore and that you’ve grown.

How to Get Flawless Skin (The Truth No One Tells You)

A gentle reminder that real skin has texture, pores, and beauty.
So you have to learn to embrace your real skin and its beauty.

You clicked on this post, like so many others, because you want the secret of how to get flawless skin, and honestly, I don’t blame you. There was a time when I also searched everywhere — scrolling through social media, jumping from video to video, Googling “flawless skin tips”, reading every comment to see what people tried and how well it worked. It became an obsession. I wanted the Korean glass skin. I wanted skin without laugh lines at the sides of my eyes. I wanted skin without that one beauty mark I thought distracted everyone who looked at me. I spent years trying to “fix” my facial acne and back acne, two of my deepest insecurities. 

And maybe you’re here because you have an event coming up, or you’re not happy with your appearance, or someone in your life made you feel like you needed to change yourself. Whatever brought you here. You’re in the right place.

And the question is: did I ever find the secret to perfect skin?

Yes, I did. But not in the way you expect.

What “Flawless” Skin Really Means

By definition, being “flawless” means “free from blemishes,” according to the Cambridge Dictionary. That’s one meaning. The other definition, the one created by society and social media, is beauty through perfection. If an influencer or celebrity has makeup covering their natural features, or smoothing filters, or cosmetic enhancements, or simply fits today’s beauty standard, they’re automatically labelled “flawless.” But what if we stop for a second and look at the truth?

The Truth

Just because someone looks perfect online doesn’t mean they are free of blemishes. Everyone has something — a birthmark, a scar, texture, pores, pigmentation, an unwanted feature they’ve tried to hide. That means we are ALL blemished. No one has flawless skin, and no one is perfect. And honestly, at the end of the day being blemished is what contributes to who you are. It’s what makes you beautifully unique.

How does being blemished turn into flawless skin?

It doesn’t. The truth is simple: having acne, pores, scars, whiteheads, blackheads, or pigmentation is normal — and “flawlessness” is NOT (Source: American Academy of Dermatology). If anyone in your life; a friend, a partner, a family member, or even yourself — believes otherwise, remember this: they also have insecurities. They also have blemishes they are learning to love. You came here for a secret and here it is: If you want flawless skin… you CANNOT achieve it. And I know that’s hard to hear, I also for a long time refused to accept it. But you can learn to love the skin for what it is, ‘cause no one is going to be able to do it for you and you gotta make peace with that.

Learning to Love Your Real Skin

If you’re going through puberty and getting acne, fall in love with the fact that your body is changing, think of it like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, the start the journey and the end is a beautiful journey. If you’re older and want your skin to look like it once did, remind yourself that you lived a wholesome life, and your skin holds those memories. Without laugh lines, you wouldn’t have some the happiest moments of your life. If you’re a young adult or adult struggling with pores, remind yourself that they are part of your natural beauty and what makes you uniquely you. Next time you look in the mirror, instead of searching for your “flaws,” notice how they contribute to your story, your softness, your beauty.

Till today, I still sometimes relapse. I still get frustrated when blackheads show up no matter what I do. No matter the skincare, the routine, or the diet. And every time that happens, I have to remind myself of reality.

Real beauty is having blemishes. Flawlessness is just a concept and not reality.

You are beautiful. You are unique. And that is what makes you, you.

What Helped Me With Acne

Now I know that what you read is not exactly what you came here for and that even if you sigh and turn away from this page I ask that a little piece of what I wrote resonated with you and you hold on to it. To finish I’m not going to leave you with nothing in terms of tangible advice so here are the products and tips that helped me with my skin concerns. But remember that it is not through products that you will learn to love yourself.

These are the products that helped me with my back acne. I’m not affiliated with any brand. I’m just sharing what worked for me personally. Do remember to be consistent.

Morning & Night Routine

  • Some By Mi Tea Tree Body Wash

  • I used it twice a day and left it on my back for a few minutes before rinsing.

Avoid Scented Products on Acne Areas

  • Fragrance can irritate sensitive or acne-prone skin, so I avoided anything scented on my back.

Treatment Layer

  • Glycolic Acid on clean skin
  • Followed by a mix of lavender oil + tea tree oil in a spray bottle
    Let each layer dry before putting on clothes.

Budget-Friendly Alternative

  • If you’re on a budget:

    • Mix tea tree oil + aloe vera gel
    • Apply, leave on for a few minutes, then rinse (Just this alone can improve breakouts when used consistently)

How long until you see results?

  • You’ll usually notice fewer breakouts in about 2 weeks, and scars begin to fade slowly with consistency.

Sometimes the smallest habits make the biggest difference for your skin, not to make it “perfect,” but to keep it healthy, calm, and taken care of.

Shower after sweating

Your pillow and sheets collects oil, makeup, sweat, and dust. Changing it once or twice a week lessens skin irritation.

Picking slows your skin’s healing and increases marks, it can also make you feel worse emotionally.

We touch so many surfaces throughout the day. So if you touch your face with that hand then you are transferring all those bacteria onto your face. Clean your hands before touching your face, especially before applying products.

Most of us struggle with something few people openly talk about: the inability to say “no” or set boundaries for ourselves. Maybe you’ve felt that freeze—the moment your mind wants to speak up, but your mouth just says “yes.” It’s frustrating, isolating, and exhausting. You might feel like no one understands your struggles, and no matter how hard you try, your mind and body scream at you to stand up for yourself, but you can’t. I’ve been there too, and I know just how hard it can be to learn, apply, and set boundaries without guilt, especially when advice comes from people who haven’t walked in your shoes

My Personal Struggle With Saying No

Growing up, learning to say “no” and set boundaries for myself was one of the hardest lessons I’ve ever faced. Even when my mind wanted to say no, my mouth would say yes—out of fear of disappointing someone, upsetting them, or being perceived differently than I wanted. Because of this, I often struggled to maintain boundaries, especially when others asked for my help. It took me a long time to start prioritizing my needs, and now I want to share how you can do the same.

Now I know some of you are probably reading this because you want a quick fix but; changing your behaviour and natural instincts doesn’t happen overnight. For some, it can take weeks; for others, months or even years and at the end whether your growth is a journey or a destination you will confidently be able to voice and act upon your boundaries.

By the end of this post, if you learn to say no and set boundaries, I want you to make a promise to yourself: do your best to stick to your “no,” no matter how difficult it feels. You may slip up, and there will be moments when it feels like you’re backed into a corner, but you are not stuck unless YOU allow yourself to be. And remember, struggling with boundaries is not something to be ashamed of but rather it is far more common than most people realize.

Oh, and one more thing: when I talk about setting boundaries, I’m not saying you should become cold, distant, or rude. That’s a huge misconception and it’s one many of us who struggle with boundaries often worry about. Let me be clear: to set boundaries without guilt does not make you rude, distant, or unkind. You can care deeply, emphatize, and still protect your time, energy, and peace.

What Exactly Is a Boundary & Why Is It So Hard to Set?

So, what do I mean when I say “boundary”? Simply put, a boundary is a line you draw to protect your time, energy, emotions, and peace. It helps you decide how much access other people have to you and what you are comfortable with.

But why, oh why, does setting boundaries feel so hard? There are several reasons, and I want you to take a piece of paper and a pen and check off the ones that resonate with you. Understanding what shapes our behaviour is necessary to set boundaries without guilt, becoming self-aware, and protecting your mental well-being.

Common reasons boundaries feel difficult:

  1. You were raised to always agree and say yes, even in uncomfortable situations or when you didn’t want to.
  2. You fear causing an argument, seeming rude, or difficult, and believe that setting boundaries will do just that.
  3. You don’t want to disappoint others, so you inconvenience yourself or tolerate uncomfortable situations.
  4. People often label you as “nice,” “polite,” or “understanding,” and you worry that setting boundaries will change how they see you.

Whatever your reason, whether you realize it or not, the result is often the same: boundaries feel scary.

Understanding Boundaries: What They Are & What They Aren’t

Now that you know why setting boundaries can feel so difficult, let’s break down what boundaries actually are and what they’re not. Understanding this helps clear up misconceptions and gives you confidence in setting limits that protect you.

Boundaries are NOT:

  • Punishments
  • Ultimatums
  • About controlling others

Boundaries ARE:

  • About self-respect
  • Meant to protect connection, not destroy it
  • Compatible with kindness—you can be kind and still be firm
  • Designed to protect you from making decisions you’ll regret

Take a moment to read this list twice and reflect. Think of a situation where you wished you had set boundaries without guilt but couldn’t. Ask yourself why you felt stuck. Notice the emotions that come up (it’s okay to feel them). Recognize that your past behaviour doesn’t define you. You can do better next time. Now, think about how you could have placed boundaries in the situation and visualize yourself doing so confidently. Notice how it feels and hold onto that feeling.

How to Know if You Need Stronger Boundaries

Maybe you already have some boundaries in place, but you’re not sure if they’re strong enough. Or maybe you just want to strengthen your confidence in them. Here are some signs you might need stronger boundaries:

  1. Feeling drained after conversations
  2. Saying yes when you mean no
  3. Overthinking after every interaction
  4. Feeling resentful but not knowing why
  5. Constantly explaining or justifying yourself
  6. Feeling anxious before responding to messages
  7. Avoiding confrontation at all costs

Recognizing these patterns is the first step toward taking control of your time, energy, and emotional well-being.

Ready to Set Boundaries? Actionable Steps to Start Today

Now that we’ve identified the “why” and signs of weak boundaries, it’s time to learn how to set boundaries without guilt. The following steps will guide you toward stronger, healthier boundaries that protect your peace.

Step 1: Get Clear With Yourself First

Before you can set strong boundaries, you need to know yourself. What drains your energy? What conversations do you avoid? Is there a person or place that makes you feel uneasy?

Think back to the exercise we did earlier: you wrote down the reasons behind difficulty saying no. Now, take that a step further. Identify what you need, want, and expect from yourself, and compare it to what others expect from you. Notice where those expectations clash.

Your goal here is to draw a clear line between your needs and others’ expectations. This clarity will make it easier to confidently enforce your boundaries.

Step 2: Use Simple, Calm Language (No Over-Explaining)

Saying no can feel confrontational, but it doesn’t have to be. Keep your response short, clear, and firm.

Examples:

  • “No, I don’t feel comfortable.”
  • “No, I don’t want to do that.”
  • “No, thank you.”

You don’t owe anyone an explanation or negotiation. If someone presses you, calmly reaffirm your no or offer a solution that doesn’t cross your boundaries. For example: instead of saying, “No, I’m so sorry I cannot help,” try, “No, maybe ask another friend.”

Remember: being firm is not rude, what’s rude is someone pressuring you to change your decision. Stand by your no, even if they try to make you feel guilty. This is part of living up to the promise you made to yourself.

Step 3: Expect Discomfort (And Don’t Take It as a Sign You’re Wrong)

Setting boundaries can feel uncomfortable, especially if you’re used to always saying yes. Feeling guilty in the moment is normal, but it’s temporary.

When others are surprised or confused by your boundaries, that’s okay. They may need time to adjust to the new normal. Do not let guilt force you to backtrack. Wait for the feeling to pass and remind yourself: you are not responsible for someone else’s emotions.

The key here is resilience: discomfort does not equal wrongdoing.

Step 4: Hold the Boundary Without Apologizing

Once you’ve set your boundary, stand firm. If the other person persists, repeat your no calmly. You don’t need to defend or explain yourself. Their reaction is a reflection of their own emotional maturity, not your failure.

Over time, consistency teaches others to respect your limits. They learn what you are uncomfortable with, and this often prevents future pressure. That said, some people will always test your boundaries, be prepared to maintain them confidently.

Pair these steps with the visualization exercise from earlier: imagine yourself enforcing boundaries, notice how it feels, and practice this until it becomes second nature. Remember your promise: setting boundaries takes time and effort, but it’s worth it.

  • “I need a quiet night in tonight, so I won’t be coming.”

  • “I can listen for a bit, but I can’t stay on the phone too long.”

With Family

  • “I’m not comfortable discussing that right now.”
  • “I’d rather not talk about my body/relationships/work today.”
  • “I hear your opinion, but I’m making this decision for myself.”
  • “I need to step away from this conversation.”

At Work or School
